About the District

The Rombout Fire District is located 75 miles from NYC in the Town of Fishkill, Dutchess County, NY. The Fire District is the largest in the Town of Fishkill, covering about 14.3 square miles with about 3500 residences and around 10,000 residents.

Major roads in the district include Interstate 84, Route 9, and Route 52 with a daily vehicle volume of 67,000, 42,000, and 22,000 respectively. Protection is provided with two stations strategically located on the western side of the district near Interstate 84 and Route 52, and another located on the eastern end of the district on Cedar Hill Rd, off Route 52.

RFD contains a 2.4 Million Square foot Gap/Old Navy Distribution warehouse, which at the time it was built was the largest single use warehouse in the United States. RFD has several national hotel chains with over 1000 hotel rooms. RFD also has large retailers such as Walmart/Supercenter, Sams Club, and Home Depot. Health care facilites include a nursing home and several ambulatory care facilities. Education facilites includes an elementary school, and college extension site. RFD is also home to SpashDown Beach a water and amusement park.

About Rombout

Rombout is an all volunteer fire company formed in 1971, and is named after the “ Rombout Patent ” which once covered most of the land in Dutchess County, NY. Rombout has about 50 active members, and many more exempt/associate members.

Rombout Fire Company protects the Rombout Fire District. Rombout is one of five fire departments or districts that protect the residents of the Town & Village of Fishkill, NY.
