The tragedy of Super storm Sandy has had a catastrophic impact on the entire tri-state region; however, the community of Breezy Point, Queens in particular has been completely devastated. This close-knit community of hard working blue-collar workers is no stranger to tragedy in the past. In the wake of 9/11, the community mourned the loss of 37 of its own in the tragedy at the Twin Towers. A few months later an airliner departing from JFK airport crashed in the community.

The volunteer firefighters in chest high flood waters battled the firestorm as the flames leaped from house to house in the hurricane force winds. Over 110 homes, the primary residences of the very firefighters and emergency workers who were ready to serve their community were burned to their foundations. While the rest of the homes were ravaged by Sandy.s storm surge, the Point Breeze Volunteer Fire Company were rescuing their neighbors and fighting the fire as best they could. Today Breezy Point department.s fire station is a damaged, its fire apparatuses, tools and firefighting equipment was contaminated by salt water and is unsalvageable. Those who devote themselves to help their neighbors are now in dire need. Rombout Fire Company is asking for your help.
