FISHKILL– A sport utility vehicle ran a red light and struck a four-door sedan on Route 9 and Merritt Boulevard at approximately 9:15 p.m. Sunday, the Rombout Fire Department said.
The sedan was making a left turn into Wal-Mart, according to the fire department, when the SUV traveling south on Route 9 ran a red light and collided with the sedan.
Each car had two passengers.
All four, including one child, were transported by Alamo Ambulance and Mobile Life to Saint Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, fire department spokesman Kevin Barry said.
He said the victims had to be extricated from the vehicles.
Traffic was detoured while agencies cleaned up the accident scene.
The village and town of Fishkill police departments also responded to the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by Town of Fishkill police.
