FISHKILL - A woman and two dogs were rescued this morning from a house fire on Heath Road, officials said.
Rombout Fire Company spokesman Kevin Barry said the woman was taken to a local hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation after a firefighter removed her from the building.
Barry said two pet beagles were also rescued. Thee Town of Fishkill Animal Control Department will hold the dogs until their owners can pick them up.
No one else was home when the fire broke out around 8:35 a.m. The blaze started in the kitchen of the home, not far from the intersection of Route 52 and I-84.
The fire was under control within 15 minutes, but Barry said the home was damaged and cannot be occupied.
He said the woman and her husband declined temporary housing from the Red Cross and will stay with relatives.
The fire’s cause is being probed by Dutchess County fire investigators, Barry said.
Firefighters from Rombout, the Village of Fishkill and Hughsonville responded to the fire. The Glenham and East Fishkill departments were on standby.
Town of Fishkill police were also on the scene.
