FISHKILL - A house fire displaced a family from its home Saturday night in the Town of Fishkill, Rombout fire officials said. The fire on Cumberland Drive was called in about 11 p.m. by a neighbor, said Kevin Barry, public information officer for the Rombout Fire Department. No one was home at the time of the fire. Barry said fire could be seen coming from the roof and windows of the home when firefighters arrived. The fire was controlled in about 20 minutes. Although Rombout firefighters managed to rescue one dog from the blaze, Barry said, another dog died in the fire. He said the fire was ruled accidental. Robert Rolison, director of development for the Dutchess chapter of the American Red Cross, said the organization assisted one adult and three children who were living in the home with shelter and emergency financial assistance. Firefighters from Fishkill, Hughsonville, North Highland and Beacon assisted Rombout. State police, the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, Fishkill town police and Fishkill animal control also assisted.
