A STAT Flight helicopter took a seriously injured man to Westchester Medical Center this morning after his tractor-trailer turned over on the exit ramp from Route 9 south to I-84 east around 9 a.m.
Rescue workers set up a landing site in the parking lot of the former Dutchess Mall, just south of the exit.
The exit ramp remains closed, authorities said.
State Thruway Authority troopers are investigating the cause of the accident, said Kevin Barry, a spokesman for the Rombout Fire Department.
The truck came to rest on its left side and spilled its cargo–prefabricated concrete walls–onto the grass next to the ramp, he said.
Rescue workers used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver through the roof of the cab, he said.
There were no other injuries, he said.
The Rombout Fire Department, Village of Fishkill Special Opperations Unit, Thruway Authority troopers, Town of Fishkill police and the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene.
