Car fire on I84 ramp

Eastbound I-84 exit ramp for Route 9 was closed for 40 minutes earlier this evening due to a vehicle fire.

Rombout FC was dispatched at 6:13 after the driver of a Jeep Cherokee stopped on the ramp after realizing there was a fire in the back of the vehicle. The driver and the passenger left the vehicle with no injuries. Rombout arrived within minutes of being dispatched but before arriving the fire escalated causing two acetylene tanks to explode totally engulfing the vehicle and the trailer it was towing. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

Mutual aid was provided by Mobile-Life, Village of Fishkill Fire Department, Town of Fishkill Police Department and New York State Police who are investigating the incident.
