Poughkeepise Journal June 24, 2008

The Rombout Fire Co. in Fishkill honored Charles Theiss for 38 years of service during its annual inspection dinner.

Theiss, a charter member of the company from 1971, is still active at 79, responding to calls in his role with the fire police. He is also a fire commissioner.

Theiss was an enthusiastic supporter of the new fire company and was the first member on the job when construction of the firehouse began, hammering shingles and pouring concrete. He made a wooden Maltese cross with “Rombout” in block letters to hang on the outside on the first station. Today, it hangs in the engine bay in Station 1.

Theiss received an honorary membership, a 25-year active life badge and a 35-year pin.

At the dinner, held at Dutchess Manor in Beacon, Anthony Cefaloni, president of the fire company, recognized several members for their service: for five years, John Webb, Kevin Barry and Chris Mazzuca; for 10 years, Jim Butler III; for 20 years Kevin Heath. Roland Reick was awarded the 25-year Life Badge. David Lamoree received a 25-year active life badge. A 30-year pin went to Dan Silvestri Sr., a 35-year pin to William Vanpelt and Robert Harvatin.
