October, aka Fire Prevention Month, is traditionally a busy month and this year was no exception. Firefighters and equipment were at Wal-Mart and Geering Park for Fishkill Community Day providing the public with brochures about fire safety and prevention. The Rombout Fire Department every year receives requests to teach the young children of the community about the do's and don'ts of fire safety.
Paul Messina, Fire Prevention Officer, coordinated many of the programs at the following locations: Brinckerhoff ES, Saint Mary's ES, Fishkill Baptist nursery school, the Dutch Reformed Church, Estelle and Alfonso Nursery School and the Children's Ark. Chief Jeff Marino expresses his thanks to all the schools that invited Rombout FD to talk to their students, the firefighters look forward to it every year. He also extends thanks to Paul Messina for coordinating the events and to the many members for taking their time to participate.
Training that occurred during October involved:
Congratulations go to our newest firefighters, Chris “Sparkles” Mazzuca and Dom Sceppaquercia for completion of Firefighter Basic Training 2000. This 42-hour course was held at Putnam County Fire Training Center in Lake Camel and instructed by Charles Liggio, a nine-year veteran of the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control. This course provides a standardized fire training program needed to train new firefighters. It instructs the students on fire behavior, rescue, forcible entry, use of hoses and ladders, and ventilation of a building.
Driving tip. Avoid using cruise control when it is raining and the road is wet.
Happy Thanksgiving from the members of Rombout FD.
