The Rombout Fire Department responded to total 42 calls in the month of July:

Seven automatic fire alarms, three vehicle fires, one of them was mutual aid to Chelsea, one grass fire, fourteen motor vehicle accidents, two of them were mutual aid to Chelsea. One carbon monoxide call, three EMS calls, one of which forcible entry was needed, one diesel spill, one electrical fire, one natural gas leak and one illegal burn. The department also responded to a child locked in a vehicle.

With the severe weather passing through the area, there was an increase in weather related calls this month. There were three calls for wires and tree limbs down in the road and weather related vehicle accidents. These makes 245 total calls responded to this year to date.

Members of the Rombout Fire Department participated in the Mahopac Fire Department Annual Parade held July 10. After a close competition, Rombout was awarded the Best Appearing Fire Department with 21 to 30 members marching. Also the Department's 1990 Sutphen 100' Aerial Tower truck was awarded Best Appearing Aerial Truck.

Rombout firefighters marched though the village of Millbrook for their Fireman's Parade held on July 26. With friends, family and spectators lining the parade route cheering the marchers, the 35 members marched up the tree lined Main Street to the site of the annual carnival. After the judging was done, Rombout FD was awarded for the Best Color Guard and for Best Appearance in Regulation Uniform. The Chief of Millbrook FD presented the trophies to Rombout Chief Jeff Marino.

Remember, during the summer thunderstorms if you are out in the open, take shelter in a building or hard top car. Don't stand under trees, get out of the pool or lake and if you see power lines down, DO NOT go near them, they may still be energized. Call 911 to report them.
