Rombout Fire Department responded to total 43 calls in the month of August:

Twelve automatic fire alarms, one vehicle fire, two structure fires, one was mutual aid to the Village of Fishkill. Nine motor vehicle accidents, two carbon monoxide calls, six assist ambulance calls, three unauthorized controlled burns, mutual aid to Village of Fishkill for smoke in the building, and mutual aid to standby in quarters at Castle Point FD.

On August 14 Rombout firefighters were called to "standby in quarters" due to the blackout. Once the stations were manned, they were immediately called to assist the Fishkill Police Department with traffic control and to help provide shelter and ice to the town citizens. Chief Marino would like to thank the following who provided assistance and donations during the blackout: Sam's Club, the Town of Fishkill Highway Department and Police Department, "Mobil on the Run" Rt. 9 Southbound, Paleen Construction and the Village of Fishkill Fire Department and Sewer Department. Rombout has so far responded to 302 emergency calls in 2003.

Training highlights for August include: August 11-Members trained with the new Scott Thermal Imaging Camera. This addition to Rombout's arsenal of state-of-the-art firefighting and rescue tools allows rescuers to quickly find and rescue victims of fires, accidents and floods and can help locate lost or injured people in any of Fishkill's extensive wooded areas. The camera also reduces property losses due to fire by quickly locating hot spots behind walls from electrical fires or remaining embers after a structural fire which would otherwise re-ignite causing additional damage.

August 25 -Members trained on using the aerial tower truck for high-angle rescue and practiced raising and lowering a weighted training dummy in a rescue litter, simulating rescues from elevator shafts, well heads, water towers, manholes, off of roofs or from a collapsed construction trench. Members practiced the latest procedures for strapping the patient in the litter, rope handling and knot tying techniques and radio and hand communication.
